(Danville, PA) – This year the Going Gold Committee will begin its fifth consecutive year of the cancer awareness initiative with a kick-off event at Old Forge Brewing Company, located at 298 Mill Street in Danville on Thursday, August 29, 2019 at 6:00 pm. The Going Gold committee is comprised of representatives from local businesses, organizations and communities who have joined together with the goals of raising awareness about pediatric cancer, assisting local families of children battling the disease and helping to fund research to one day find a cure.
In 2018, Going Gold raised $20,000 to benefit the ThinkBIG® Pediatric Cancer Fund.
The ThinkBIG® Pediatric Cancer Fund is a local organization, dedicated to minimizing the stress families battling pediatric cancer experience, by providing financial support for everyday cost of living expenses and unpaid medical bills.
In 2015, Woody Wolfe, executive director of Heart to Hand Ministries, approached Old Forge Brewing Company and Service 1st Federal Credit Union and asked, “Why not go gold?” Going Gold soon grew into a month-long awareness effort. Last year, events were held in Bloomsburg, Danville, Lewisburg, Mifflinburg, Shamokin, Watsontown, and Williamsport.
A full calendar of 2019 events and fundraisers will be announced in August. For more information about Going Gold and to watch for event updates, visit www.service1.org/promo-landing-pages/gg or call Colleen Phillips, Vice President Marketing at Service 1st Federal Credit Union at 800.562.6049.
