Going Gold Initiative Raises Awareness and $9,000 to Benefit ThinkBIG

11/10/2017

(Danville, PA) – Throughout September, Bloomsburg, Danville and Lewisburg partnered to “Go Gold” and raise awareness about pediatric cancer. Service 1st Federal Credit Union, Old Forge Brewing Company, Heart to Hand Ministries, Marley’s Brewery and Grille, West End Ale Haus, and Brendan’s Town Tavern teamed up to “Go Gold,” by hosting several events throughout the month. Together, with support from the community, they raised over $9,000 to benefit the ThinkBIG Pediatric Cancer Fund.

"ThinkBIG was very humbled to again be the beneficiary of this year's “Going Gold” efforts,” said Dr. Colby Wesner, Founder, ThinkBIG Pediatric Cancer Fund. “It is amazing to see how much this movement has grown since it's inception. It means a lot to all of the families who have unfortunately had to battle pediatric cancer to see the community start to understand the importance of recognizing the gold ribbon during Pediatric Cancer Awareness Month."

The “Going Gold” initiative began in 2015 and continues to expand. This year, the awareness campaign kicked off with events in three communities. Danville Mayor Bernie Swank, Lewisburg Mayor Judy Wagner and Bloomsburg Mayor Sandy Davis, each attended the events and shared proclamations acknowledging September as “Going Gold” Month.

ThinkBIG reports that about 15,500 children in the United States are diagnosed with cancer every year.
