emv chip card

More than just a “chip” off the old block . . .

Soon, Service 1st Visa® Check Cards will have chip technology built right in. This tiny chip protects your card information in a big way!

Count on enhanced fraud protection. When you use your card at a chip-enabled terminal, the embedded chip generates a unique transaction code. This prevents stolen data from being fraudulently used.

Enjoy global acceptance. More places than ever now accept VISA® check cards. Whether you check in using chip technology or swipe your card, you can pay with confidence worldwide.

It’s easy to pay with your chip-enabled check card:

  1. Insert the chip end of your card into the terminal with the chip facing up.
  2. Keep your card in the terminal and follow the prompts on screen.
  3. Remove your card when prompted and take your receipt

Keep in mind, you may need to sign for your purchase.

What if the stores I frequent don’t have the chip card technology?

Service 1st Visa® Check Cards that are chip-enabled will still feature the magnetic strip, just in case your favorite store doesn’t have chip technology just yet.

Do I really need this? The magnetic strip seems secure.

The chip beats the strip in a number of ways. Security is just one reason why you will be glad we are making the switch from a magnetic strip card to an EMV (Europay®, Mastercard®, Visa®) Chip Card.

Let’s compare: Chip vs. Strip

Okay, but I’m not sure I fully understand how it works?
